Tropical Storm Ida expected to become hurricane today, and be ‘major hurricane’ before hitting Gulf Coast

Ida is expected to bring dangerous storm surge, hurricane-force winds, and rain to parts of the U.S. Gulf Coast, including the Florida Panhandle, the hurricane center said. Hurricane watches were in effect from Cameron, La., to the Mississippi/Alabama border.
