Spirit-Frontier merger aims to set up one of the nation’s largest discount airlines

A proposed buyout of budget air carrier Spirit Airlines of South Florida by Frontier Airlines of Denver might save consumers up to $1 billion, the two companies asserted Monday as they announced a plan to merge later this year.
