Attempt to feed manatees fails so far, but effort to hold off starvation will continue

State and federal wildlife officials undertook the unusual step of offering food to manatees last month after an unprecedented number of deaths last year, most from starvation. But so far, the manatees have been ignoring the offerings of lettuce.
