On New Year’s Eve, the state reported 298,455 new COVID cases for the week, up from 125,201 last week. In another clear sign that omicron is spreading fast, the state’s test positivity rates jumped to 26.5% from 13.8% last week and 5.3% just two weeks ago. This surpasses the highest positivity rate during the delta wave.
